Fright Night 2

The local fair in Vancouver stays open until Halloween. They call it “Fright Night” and do a bunch of haunted houses, and fun stuff in addition to the normal rides. I try to go every year because it’s good stuff. Here’s a couple shots from my visit last week.

Looking through the photos of my trip to NZ i realized I didn’t shoot much. Guess I wasn’t feeling it. Here’s a couple of the randoms I did take.

The last month has flown by. Amazing times shredding, learning and appreciating skiing. One thing I miss is my road bike. I’ll be happy to get home and ride. Here’s a couple for inspiration/wonder. I love old photos of riding. Classic.

Cardrona Winds

I wanted to post a couple photos on here from my drive up the hill today. New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, no matter how many time i come here I’m still blown away by the contrast in its natural beauty.

Drive up to Cardrona felt like Nepal. Steep drop offs to death on the right, pot holes and bumpy roads and the rise into heaven.

View from the road on the way up Cardrona. Again and again I find myself amazed at how beautiful New Zealand is.

alpine initiatives

Some people do inspiring and amazing things, JP Auclair is one of those people. The depth of what Alpine Initiatives has done broadsided me morning when I checked out their website. A few people can mobilize major positive change. Alpine Initiatives is proof . Here’s and except of JP’s writing from the Alpine Initiatives blog:

“Today is extremely hard to describe with words… and I don’t think pictures can do it either…

We went and picked up the first kids who will be staying at KACH. Some seemed extremely excited about going (mostly the ones who had no real home and/or the ones who already knew Karambu, Mikey or myself) some of them seemed scared and a little confused. KACH is such a great concept to me that I forgot about how, no matter how gentle the transition may be, moving to a new house with new faces can be difficult and scary. As we drove through the Meru district, stopping at different boarding schools and houses, I became progressively more anxious to see how well the kids were going to adjust to their new surroundings..

As they moved in, they all seemed super happy and comfortable with each other! Mikey, Karambu and I spent the night at KACH with them. As I was laying in bed, I felt like I had to pinch myself to realize where I was and what was going on. I kept telling myself: “I can’t beleive I’m laying down on a bed in KACH right now! The kids are here, they have a home, a new family and they seem happy! Their new life starts right now!!”

Been in Wanaka for the last 1.5 weeks, pretty mellow living. Skiing a lot… Not really too much of particular interest, but here’s a couple shots.

I’m in New Zealand, it’s been 4 years, but it feels really good to be back. I’ve missed it here. I went for a hike the other morning before the hill to take a look. Wanaka’s a beautiful place…

Horse Track

The other night I went to the horse races with my buddy Cody. It’s always rad to catch up with long time friends, there’s nothing else like it.

Hastings Horse track in front. Coastal Mountains in back. Not a bad place to watch some horse racing…

The jockeys parade the horses prior to the race so you can judge your bets… This is just before the race starts.

The ride home from a late night. Managed to take a photo though. Sometimes I still amaze myself.
