Photo’s from the last week. Nothing special. Just a week.
This one photo really sums up a lot. For a lot of people. On all sides of the equation.

Drama, people resigning over elections. And censorship I guess… but if you own the magazine, you can do whatever you want… But really, what does this say about Storm Mountain Publishing (AKA. Freeskier, owner of Snowboard)?
*check it out below for the drama*
These are mock-up covers for two of North America’s leading snowboard publications, and neither will ever see the light of day…
Both these covers, at one point, were in serious consideration… here is the easy breakdown.
WHO: Rider: Jesse Burtner. Photographer: Mike Yoshida. Workers: Krush Kulezsa and his dedicated park staff.
WHAT: an Idea I had for the cover of an all political issue for snowboarder magazine. It was canned by snowboarder first (even though the concept was green-lit and given the “awesome Idea” button. Canned in the end because of it’s “imagery.” What?) , then canned by snowboard mag.
WHEN: Shot in the spring, with hopes for it to be on the stands NOW!
WHERE: Summit at Snoqualmie with Krush and his entire crew. They ruled so hard.
WHY: Because voting and politics are fun, important, and empowering. And seeing as how the magazines won’t themselves make it to the surface, you better get an idea of A. what we were going for, and B. why we were stopped.
There is no “basically” about this scenario. I am not completely trashing these publications, and I must let you know how highly I hold Snowboarder’s Pat Bridges and Tom Monterosso and Snowboard’s Jeff Baker and Larry Nunez amongst most others at these mags. it’s the presidents/CEOs that I’m going for. They are terrible for the sport and all of its participants, and could care less about the content of the magazines, just as long as it stays away from politics.
These photographs were in the running for the October issue of Snowboarder before being pulled for a few vague reasons, leading me to give my resignation as Senior Editor. Snowboard’s crew was so hyped on the photo, and it was on its way to the printer when the president of the mag had it pulled, for reason of personal political interest. Awesome. How about a different life for these fellows of money grubbing grubbingness, eh?
So now, please do as you will with these photos, but let them be seen. If you are interested in getting a copy of either of them, let me know, and I will direct you to Mike Yoshida. And boycott all publications trying to steer their audiences down a road of DUMB and EASY! Write to these magazines and tell them what you want. If you want email addresses, contact me.
Challenge. Challenge. Yeah.
Wicked.

This is a piece by Lauri Anderson. Visual artist, sculptor and partner of Lou Reed. She does some really interesting work.
This is called O Superman from 1981. I wonder if Lil Wayne uses the same voice box…

This past weekend it was Canadian Thanksgiving. I don’t really know the reason why Americans and Canadians celebrate this event at different times of the year, but anyway. An excuse to see some family and take a couple days off Joystick/school. I went with my Mom and Dad up to a lake in interior BC where I spent much of my childhood summers.
I hadn’t been there in 11 or 12 years, so everything was extra nostalgic. This is the back land. It felt like Stand By Me (the film…) in many ways.
BONFIRE. Some things never change.
And somethings do change. These huge multi million dollar homes are being built on the beach where tiny bungalows once stood. Nothing stays the same forever. For scale look at the size of that crane in the lower right of the pic.
Super good riding out there… No cars at all, pretty smooth roads.
Color of the fall from my bike.
This was another change which also made me a bit sad. This was the old corner store where i used to buy ice cream and candy. It feels like it has lost its soul.
My younger cousins taught me a new trick. It’s called a ‘Fire Boat’ and it’s actually amazing. You make a small vessel out of plastic or whatever, cram it with shit, light it on fire and push it out into the lake. I’m bummed i never did this when i was younger.
My boat at the beginning of it’s voyage.
Apparently mine went the furthest out of anyone’s this summer. That’s a feat since it’s my first Fire Boat ever, but also not that much of an achievement when one considers that my competition is under 16 years old. It’s still pretty far out there…
My cousin Ryan pushing his boat off.
Setting sail on distant lands.
This is my youngest cousin Eric. And this is what happens…
when you give a 12 year old a pack of matches and a roll of newspaper.
One last look at the lake.
