New Bjork! Volta.
It reminds me of some of her earlier stuff. The whole album is amazing.

We made it to Mt. Hood. 2 days of driving later. I’m tired and sore. We get to hit a step up tomorrow. I hope…
Today we finished our drive from Mammoth to Mt. Hood. There were lots of flies and no gas station to clean the windshield. Elina couldn’t see. I was worried.
Government Camp.
When we got to Mt.Hood we drove around. We couldn’t find anyone. Eventually we went to the Huckleberry Inn. I had a huckleberry shake.
We met up with Tyler. We all went and played Buckhunter. Elina and I were really bad, but Tyler was good. He made up for us.
Tyler shooting.
Elina had the best style when kiling deers. 58% accuracy.

A couple weeks ago i had a discussion with one of my friends about music. One of the things we talked about was lyrics. It made me realize how important lyrics are to me. I find lyrics to be an integral part of a good song. The poetry of music can be so powerful. The likes of Tom Waits, Conor Oberst, and Buck 65…
On my drive to the coffee shop to do email i listened to these two songs. While typing emails i listened to these two again. The lyrics of Anais Mitchell are to so powerful, conveying a moment so brilliantly, it’s beautiful:
Anais Mitchell ‘Santa Fe Dream’
if it should happen
if you should wake in the night
there in the city of faith
where your true love lies
asleep like a baby
with her hands at her head
and the moon in your window
sheds her light on the bed
if it should happen
if you should rise alone
and both sit staring in the shadows of all that you own
at the cloth on the table and the cable bill
your old to keep moving
your too young to keep still
all the world a rambling stops
all the while the roving moon
all the while the railroad calls
keep passing by
passing by you
if it should happen
if you should turn to see
the way that moon sheds her light on your love where she sleeps
go lay down beside her
and wonder again
that such a small window
lets so much light in
The lyrics of TV on the Radio cupeled with the tone of the song, allow me to relate to ‘Blues from down here’ on many different levels. I guess that’s the brilliance of poetry and music.
Tv on the radio ‘Blues From Down Here’
From the depths I called you, Ma
For your breath and breast so warm and fabled
Your hands reached inside
Grabbed my heart, enlarged, disabled
Hailed for your mercy
An ear that cares
How the blues sound from up there?
With my wet hair, I wipe the blood off your feet
Carry me through these shark infested waters
Well you spared me from slaughter for sure,
But these sharks are equally in need of a martyr
Oh kindness shared
Undeserved purest gift, this life you’ve spared
How the blues sound from up there?
Teeth gnashing, masticating this dumb tongue
Quiet now, quiet now, hear that supplication
Echo into the void
Been received by no one
Oh my sweet dear
Cold alone poisoning ourselves
Engulfed in our own tears
Signed, blues from down here.
Pull the pin, drop it in, let it wash away our
Time for your favorite story
Of how to achieve golden glory
Wash yourself all squeaky clean
All in white, all hallow’s eve
Lessen your desire,
Hold your breath so patiently
Never inquire how to be free
Just stay on your knees
You might doubt it
Think there’s nothing left for
To do but stomp my feet
And shout about it
From the depths I called you
Now I’m waiting for an answer patiently
Stuck here at the bottom of this well
It’s not the last you’ve heard from me
I listed the lyics so you can follow along. Sometimes the words are lost. It helps me at least…

By posting this Modest Mouse song i want to make one thing clear.
I’m not a fan of the new album. Harmonizing and catchy hooks were always a part of Mo mo’s deal. The new album is the next level though. Gone is the experimentation, gone is the adventure, gone are the lyrics which make me wonder. If you compare an old Mo mo album to the new shit it’s so different. I’m not saying that bands shouldn’t change, but… not like this. Their single ‘Dashboard’ makes me want to puke.
I find this song fitting when i’m on the road though. It reminds me of Dramamine in a weird way.
